You can use a dirty water pump for all sorts of purposes. They are commonly used from pumping out flooded basements, to ponds and any standing water. The best are powered by a powerful motor with an auto-cut off devise in case of sudden blockage and a lengthy cable. New, they tend to cost in the region of $40 to $100.

Dirty water pumps come in all sorts of brands ad designs. Draper is a very popular brand, as is Karcher pumps, ProUser, and Hozelock Flood Pumps. Many of the pump makes under these leading brands are battery powered, not only mains powered, for when you need a pump far away from any mains outlets.

Generally speaking, pumps come in two types: external and internal. The external ones tend to be the most powerful ones, designed for large ponds and water features. The internal pumps are usually more than sufficient for most small garden ponds and household pump needs.

You will want to carefully consider the purpose of your pump, and what you need it for. Each pump has differing electrical consumption, installationa nd maintenance needs. The power of the pump is an iimportant factor, and it is measured in Gallons-Per-Hour. If the exit point for the pump is further away the power of any pump wil decrease over distance.

You should ask for advice or do some careful reserach as to the necesary poweryou will need for your job. Moving water with a pump vertcally requires a great deal more power than any movement of water that is aided by gravity, and of course upward movement is esepecially powerful.

You can reduce the power of your pump with certain valves if it is more powerful than you need. So when you buy your dirty water pump try to go over what you need rather than under. This way you will be sure to get the job done. Although don’t just go for the most powerful external pump out there as it will pobably be far beyond what you need!

A few more considerations are the usage of the pump – outdoor and indoor. Make sure you dont get an indoor pump for outdoor use, or it may stop working under strong weather conditions. Also, the chord is a factor, make sure t is long enugh, or at least that you have a decent outdoor extension chord o make up the difference.

Most dirty water pumps wll come with a filter, as when you are dealing with dirty water it is full of things that can block any pump without a filter. So check a decent flter comes with your pump. The filter may already be built in or you may have one that comes with it and you need to add. For fish ponds you’ll also need a biological filter that stops the poor fish from getting sucked into the pump!

When you are shopping around for your dirty water pump, it is worth taking the time to check out different sites and compare prices of electric water pumps, as they can vary quite a lot. You always have the option of buying a used dirty water pump, perhaps from Amazon or various other sites (see the links on this page).  For submersible pumps and  well pumps too. You can save some money this way but as a warning, make sure the seller is reputed and that the pump is in good condition. If they see a lot of heavy usage many water pumps can burn out relatively rapidly compared to other devises. As can any electric pumps, sewage pumps or flood pumps.

But if you do your research we’re sure you’ll find the perfect dirty water pump for your needs!
